This Week in Bento: July 21-24

So here we are at my second weekly bento update... it's always nice when you try to make something a habit and actually do it more than once!  (I know the 2nd time around is probably too soon to be celebrating as well, but hey, sometimes it's the little things!)  I only worked a few days this week, so I only have 3 to show, but they were all very tasty, and now that I look at them, all pretty Asian as well.

July 21

7-21-10 Daikon-Aburaage Miso Soup
In the back there is what was really the star of this lunch for me: Daikon and aburaage miso soup!  This week I came across a cool site called J-Simple Recipes, and got the recipe from there.  Sooo tasty!  To the right of that is some rice with ebi fumi furikake (which is so amazing.. I can't get enough of it!) and green beans with wakame seaweed.  Up front is a mix of edamame and roasted corn, some grape tomatoes, and little chocolate-filled cookies from the Korean market!

7-23-10 Hoisin-Glazed Salmon with Plum-Ginger Relish
As I've said, sometimes I make food just for my bentos, but more often than not I'm repurposing leftovers.  And when you have two people who love to cook in the house, well, leftovers tend to be really good.  This is basically the dinner I made the night before, fit into little cute containers!  In the middle is grilled hoisin-glazed salmon with plum-ginger relish. With it I have sesame wonton chips, wasabi, sugar snap peas, and of course, rice!  This bento photo has been pretty popular over on Flickr, so I definitely will be posting the recipe for the salmon (and the relish, and the wonton chips) here at PopArtichoke asap!

July 24

7-24-10 Purple Sweet Potato Flowers
And here's today's lunch.. it's very sunny and colorful... unlike the crazy thunderstorms and flash flooding we had around here in the past 24 hours!   The flowers are made from purple sweet potato with sesame seed centers, with sugar snap peas as the leaves.  There's more rice with that wonderful ebi fumi furikake, grape tomatoes, and more Korean chocolate-filled cookies (those things are dangerously addictive!).  In the back is some quail egg soboro with shredded nori.. all and all a very tasty vegetarian lunch!

A brief bento update this week, but that's good; it'll free up time for me to get that salmon post out!  I know I have a few people waiting for it!  ^_^
Thanks for everyone's kind comments.. have a great weekend!

  1. Yes, get to work on that salmon/plum relish post! Hehe. We have had some crazy thunderstorms the last two nights too but it doesn't seem to be cooling anything down.
